I am excited to see SALT (Sloping Agriculture Land Technology) being tried out in Tengnoupal district of Manipur by the Livelihoods Team of the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission, subsequent to their visit to Aben village in Tamenglong district for exposure and training on SALT.
This September 2021, I had the opportunity to visit these SALT Demo farms and was greatly encouraged. This short video-clip of my visit attempts to present the work being done there.
SALT has the potential to offer the hill farmers of NE India a sustainable alternative where traditional shifting cultivation (slash-and-burn) and more recent chemical input reliant horticulture have been ravaging the fragile eco-system.
