What is a Rectifier / Regulator‑Rectifier (RR Unit)
The stator (alternator) in the bike generates alternating current (AC) when the engine runs.
But the battery and most of the bike’s electrical systems need direct current (DC), at a stable voltage (usually ~12 V).
The rectifier portion converts AC → DC (by allowing current only in one direction)
The regulator portion controls the voltage so it doesn’t go too high (overcharging) and damage the battery or electronics.
Together, this component is often called the regulator‑rectifier (RR unit) or regulator / rectifier.
In short: rectify + regulate = convert to DC + stabilize voltage.
What to Consider / When It May Fail
Heat dissipation: The unit must dissipate heat well. Poor cooling or bad mounting can cause failure.
Voltage spikes / surges: A weak or failing regulator can allow voltages to rise too high, damaging battery or lights.
Poor internal components: Diodes or internal circuits may degrade, causing weak charging or no charging.
Wiring / connections: Loose or corroded connectors can cause voltage drop or intermittent failure.
Compatibility: Using a unit with the wrong pin count or electrical spec may lead to mismatch or damage.
