Guisborough Forest Walk

🌿 GUISBOROUGH FOREST WALK: WOODLAND SCENERY, MOORLAND VIEWS, AND ROSEBERRY TOPPING OPTION
🌄 This fantastic walk explores the scenic woodland and open moorland at the northern edge of the North York Moors. Starting from the Guisborough Forest & Walkway Visitor Centre in Pinchinthorpe, the circular route follows forest trails, climbs through High Bousdale Wood, and skirts the base of the iconic Roseberry Topping, with an optional climb to the summit. You’ll also have the chance to visit Hanging Stone, a sandstone outcrop offering spectacular views across the landscape.
🧭 The route covers 7 miles, takes around 3½ hours to complete, and includes a total ascent of 358 metres. You’ll find full directions, walk statistics, and parking advice on the walk page. There are also links to Ordnance Survey and Outdooractive maps, where you can print the route, download it to your phone, or export it as a GPX file.
🏞️ The walk is centred around the Guisborough Forest & Walkway, a visitor-friendly area managed by Forestry England on the north-west edge of the North York Moors. Just five minutes from Guisborough on the A173, it features a café, picnic area, children’s play zone, and several clearly marked walking and cycling trails. The forest spans over 230 hectares and offers a peaceful setting with excellent views of the surrounding hills.
📸 You’ll follow peaceful woodland paths, cross open moorland, and enjoy far-reaching views towards Redcar, Middlesbrough, and the North Sea. Roseberry Topping is a rewarding climb for those up for the challenge, or simply enjoy its iconic shape from afar. Hanging Stone is another highlight—a perfect spot to pause, take a break, and soak up the scenery.
