Carlsbad Caverns National Park, Carlsbad New Mexico | Hiking into the cavern

Journey with us into the depths of Carlsbad Caverns National Park—a place of beauty and wonder, both above and below the surface! 🌄🕳️

Above ground, the park showcases ancient sea ledges, rocky canyons, flowering cactus, and desert wildlife in the heart of the Chihuahuan Desert. Hidden beneath lies a world of over 119 caves, formed when sulfuric acid dissolved the limestone. The highlight is the Big Room, a massive chamber so large it could hold six football fields!

We hiked the steep switchback trail 80 stories into the cavern, explored incredible formations, and then took the elevator 750 feet back to the surface. Along the way, we learned about the Brazilian free-tailed bats, their historic guano deposits, and why this park is truly one of a kind.

👉 Travel Tips:

+Timed entry tickets are required—reservations recommended.
+No food, gum, or drinks (except water) are allowed inside the caverns.
+Ranger-led tours add even more adventure but have been put on hold.
