Renovating an abandoned stone watermill in Portugal is never simple — but renovating a round bathroom might be one of our biggest challenges yet.

In this episode, we rethink our entire turret bathroom layout, drilling back into freshly plastered walls to reconfigure lighting, mirrors, and storage. With curved stone walls, hidden plumbing, and limited space, every decision requires double-checking, measuring, and sometimes starting over. From abandoning medicine cabinets to designing custom shower niches at different heights, we walk through the real problem-solving behind building a functional bathroom in a historic stone structure.

While interior work continues, we also take on a much-needed winter upgrade: installing a temporary fireplace to help dry damp stone walls, protect wood finishes, and finally bring warmth into the mill. What we thought would be a simple chimney install quickly turns into a full-blown puzzle of mismatched parts, improvised solutions, and MacGyver-worthy fixes — all before lighting our first fire ever inside the house.

Outside, the transformation continues as our team builds stone platforms for the heat pump and climate systems that will power our radiant heated floors. Despite rain delays and plaster mishaps, the exterior of the mill is beginning to look finished, cohesive, and truly alive again.
