This video shows me completing a Christmas pet portrait commission for a client. The timelapse drawing is a great example of how to layer pastel colour and tone, keep some areas flat with shadow and others brighter and high in detail.
Pastel pencils are the perfect medium for drawing animals and so work really well for dogs and cats! I have a full length beginner class to help you learn to draw on Gumroad, find it below:
