This segment from the “What’s in a Name, Part 4” episode of the series “Lost Louisiana” from March 15, 2007, features Charlie Whinham’s visit to Plain Dealing in Bossier Parish. Whinham visits the Giles’ Snack Shop, also known as Annie Lou’s. During his visit, he talks to resident Kitty Coyle about the origin of the town’s name, owner Annie Lou Giles about her diner’s role as a gathering place for the town, and Mayor Dale Barnette about the 1933 bank robbery by Charles Frazier. Whinham also speaks to Plain Dealing resident Clark Strayhan about the bank robbery and subsequent shoot-outs, the uniqueness of the town’s name, and a former nearby community known as Swindleville. Lastly, Whinham tours the Plain Dealing Cemetery with Mayor Barnette, including the graves of the Gilmer Family, the town’s founders.
