I keep an eye out for used test- or lab equipment to add to my collection of useful tools and gadgets on e-bay; mostly because I can't afford any "state of the art" lab tools, but also because I like some projects in that area.
During such a late night browsing session, I found an early 1980s DMM, a Fluke 8040A, which had a nifty design and was worth saving, just for the cool LED display and push button range selection.
It features 20000 counts and quite some decent accuracy for the time... but it arrived in a bit of a sad condition; something clearly was broken on the inside... can I fix it?
