Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has pushed back against US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs on European nations supporting Greenland’s security, calling the move a “mistake.” Speaking during a visit to South Korea, Meloni warned that punishing allies for contributing troops risks deepening transatlantic tensions. Trump has announced a 10% import tax on goods from eight European countries, escalating to 25% if no deal is reached on US control of Greenland. Meloni said she raised concerns directly with Trump, stressing that Europe’s actions were misinterpreted and not intended as anti-American.
