The world's first Cuneiform Script!
Mesopotamian civilization where the culture of records blossomed.
About 5,000years ago, in Mesopotamia, located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in Iraq, cities such as Babylon, Nipur, and Uruk were born and developed into civilization, which were called Mesopotamian civilization or Sumer civilization.
There, the first cuneiform script was created and a revolution in written culture had taken place.
In this fertile region, agriculture developed and each city was centered around a temple, and active economical activity in which agricultural products were gathered and redistributed was made possible by use of cuneiform clay tablets and cylinder seals.
The artifacts on display in the exhibition on hall are from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and through the exhibits, you will be able to get a glimpse into the interest and worldview of the Mesopotamian people at that time.
지금부터 5,000여년 전 이라크의 티그리스강과 유프라테스강, 두 강사이에 있는 메소포타미아 지역에서 바빌론, 닛푸르, 우륵과 같은 도시들이 탄생해 발ㄷ달한 문명을 메소포타미아 문명 또는 슈메르문명이라 부른다.
이곳에서 인류 최초로 쐐기문자가 만들어져 기록문화혁명이 일어났다.
이 비옥한 지역에서 농업이 발달했고, 각 도시는 신전을 중심으로 농산물이 모이고 재분배되는 경제활동이 활발히 이루어졌다.
복잡해진 경제활동을 쐐기문자 점토판과 실린더형 인장들을 이용함으로써 가능했다.
전시실에서 관람하실 유물은 뉴욕 메트로폴리탄 박물관에서 가져온 것으로 그 당시 사람들의 관심사와 세계관을 엿볼 수 있을 것입니다.
