Castle of Heart: Retold Gameplay on Nintendo Switch Lite

Today I checked out Castle of Heart: Retold on my Nintendo Switch Lite. This is the remaster of the original Switch exclusive Castle of Heart, now updated with refined gameplay, visuals, and storytelling. After spending some time with it, here are my first impressions:

✅ What Works Well
• The story and setting have good stakes: playing as Svaran, cursed to slowly turn to stone, fighting to rescue Mira adds weight and tension.
• I liked the Slavic-fantasy vibe — mythological creatures, folklore, and dark landscapes create a unique world.
• Visual upgrades are noticeable: character models, smoother animations, better lighting, and sharper environments make it feel more polished.
• Gameplay refinements help a lot: combat feels tighter than before, platforming more precise, and controls less floaty than the original release.
• Extra content like alternate endings, rewritten dialogue, and reworked cutscenes add replay value and immersion.

⚠️ What’s Less Ideal
• The difficulty is still tough — enemies, traps, and platforming sections punish mistakes heavily.
• Lingering issues: jump arcs and hit detection can still feel off, which I didn’t enjoy.
• The performance sits at 30 fps, and honestly, for a platformer it feels sluggish. 60 fps would have made the gameplay much smoother.
• It’s a game that demands patience — if you’re not into challenging platformers, it might feel frustrating.

🎯 My Overall Take

Castle of Heart: Retold is a clear improvement over the original. It delivers a more polished, fairer action-platformer with a strong mythological vibe. But the steep challenge, performance cap, and lingering flaws keep it from being a must-buy.

If you enjoy atmospheric platformers, tough challenges, and myth-inspired settings, give it a try. But if you’re on the fence, I wouldn’t strongly recommend it.
