In 1845 Clark w. Hurd and Joseph Briggs, along with Allen and Hiram Clark, purchased the lot from the holland land company, who acquired it from the native indians. Back then, Creeks and streams were highly sought after for their power and irrigation.Within one season, they had the dam, the millrace, the sawmill, and housing for the workers. Soon, shops, schools and taverns were built to support the growing timber and agriculture economy. During this time, son Allen Hurd fought and died in the civil war. Special thanx to all who sacrificed for our freedom, and to all who help us appreciate it. Oh, thanx to dead can dance for the music.
