Residents living in nursing homes have numerous rights. Nursing homes are governed by both state rules and federal regulations. These rules and regulations are there to protect residents from abuse, neglect, and exploitation, as well as help improve the quality of life for each person living in a nursing home.
If a resident believes that one or more of the rights we’ve discussed have been violated, these can be discussed directly with nursing home staff. It’s important to detail the problems and how you would like to see them resolved.
You may express concerns to the Michigan Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (MLTCOP). To reach a local ombudsman, call 866-485-9393 or visit https://mltcop.org.

Residents and family members who have concerns may also contact the Michigan Department of Attorney General by calling 800-242-2837.
