Every year on Orthodox Epiphany, Christian believers in the Republic of Georgia take part in a powerful ritual: bathing in icy waters to commemorate the baptism of Christ.
This film captures the Epiphany bathing at Lake Paravani, a frozen high-altitude lake located at 2,073 meters above sea level, in one of the coldest regions of the country (Javakheti Plateau). Surrounded by snow and cold wind, women and men plunge into the freezing water as an act of faith, purification, and spiritual renewal.
