Wrestling Champion of LDN Wrestling: Alan Lee Travis, Londoner

Alan is 5 times British Champion of LDN wrestling. He’s dedicated his life to wrestling and his fans. Shot at the Broadway theatre in Barking, this film tells the story of his fight for stardom.

This film is part of 1000 Londoners, a five-year digital project which aims to create a digital portrait of a city through 1000 of the people who identify themselves with it. The profile contains a 3 minute film that gives an insight into the life of the Londoner, as well as their personal photos of London and some answers to crucial questions about their views on London life. Over the course of the project we aim to reveal as many facets of the capital as possible, seeing city life from 1000 points of view.

The filmmakers from Chocolate Films will be both producing the films and providing opportunities to young people and community groups to make their own short documentaries, which will contribute to the 1000 films. At the end of the day you know anything can happen inside that ring. We are in Barking tonight and Barking is probably my most favourite place to be. I think the one word I can use to describe my character in the ring is 'intensely', really. It's a bit like the Incredible Hulk. It's like a Banner and Hulk kind of thing. I leave my Hulk inside that ring and of course I leave my Banner outside the ring, you know. Perfect, see this right here is what I really like - I'm all alone, no one to bother me, I can just warm up, stretch up and do some pump up. ('WELCOME TO LDN WRESTLING') It's quite nerve racking because when I like stretch and I hear the crowd, you know, as you can hear now they're really loud. ('ARE YOU READY FOR SOME ACTION PACKED PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING?') It's that adrenaline pumping, you just can't describe it. ('WE'VE GOT SOME TOP NAMES HERE TONIGHT, INCLUDING BRITISH HEAVY WEIGHT CHAMPION ALAN LEE TRAVIS!') Whenever I go to a show, before show time, if I very, very quickly go to the shop and get a protein bar or like a fruit drink, I'll just wear a hoodie or something so I don't get recognised. It's all about pleasing [sic] the fans, really. [Crowd chanting 'Travis']. To hear from someone like them - [Travis' name is called] - oh, I'm out next. I've gotta get going now, sorry.
