Today stands one of Canada’s most unique and elegant lighthouses, the Point Abino Lighthouse.
At the turn of the 20th century, Lake Erie was a major shipping route, but also a dangerous one.
The stretch between Buffalo and Port Colborne was notorious for shoals, shallow reefs, and sudden storms. In fact, dozens of ships were lost near Point Abino.
In this video, we’ll explore the rich and sometimes complicated story of this national historic site, from its construction in the early 20th century, to its decay, and its recent revival.
Point Abino Lighthouse is more than just a building, it’s a symbol of endurance, beauty, and community pride.
