Dr. Marc Bosward, a Lecturer of animation at the University of Derby presents 'A Deeper Picture: A Realist Semiotics of Non-fiction Film'.
Marc uses critical realism to explore the ontology of non-fiction, explicitly documentary and collage as an interface between lived experience and the socio-historical constructions of animation. He, therefore, examines the craft of creating animation via the ontological strata of CR, to illuminate the mediated process, which is designed and developed to convince audiences of the authenticity and representation of the real world. Since the academic fields of Crime Security, and Justice are highly meditated, for instance, journalistic reporting and documentary film. Marc’s presentation illuminates and helps us imagine how the study of animation could further our own areas of criminological expertise.
