New to YouTube in 2025 | One Year Later (self-esteem, confidence & money)

Should you start making videos? Here's some pros and cons I've experienced after one year of uploading and only gaining 1,000 subscribers. I've been horribly inefficient in my YouTube growth. 1k subs in one year is not typically good and there's a lot I could have done better to ensure this channel grew more.

Is it too late for you to start making videos? No! No matter how old, how young, how experienced or inexperienced you are in video creation, there are reasons for everyone to start. Will you make money fast on YouTube? No. In fact, statistically speaking, you will never make any money on here at all. It is what it is. That's the nature of being self-employed. If you go into ANY creative venture expecting to get rich quick, you've been lied to. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't aspire to generate revenue from your hard work. It's a grind, and takes countless thousands of hours of work in order to... make it work. You have to be ready to commit.

HOWEVER. This is a ton of fun. I feel extremely satisfied with the work I've done here so far and have tons of plans for this channel's future. It might work out, it might crash and burn - we'll see. If there's one takeaway you can get from this video: just have fun. Make videos about topics you're actually interested in, and don't blow a bunch of money on gear.
