Introduction and Variations on a theme of Mozart Op. 9 is Fernando Sor's most famous composition played here on an original guitar by René Lacote (1839), who was also Sor's favourite luthier in Paris. This recording was made in the main salon of Wiurila manor (Salo, Finland), which has been preserved in its original decor from the 1830s.
From the very beginning, this composition was considered a masterpiece as Sor often performed it in his concerts, and also his famous colleague Dionisio Aguado performed it in a concert in Paris. Sor's younger colleague and apparently his student Napoleon Coste considered this work among Sor's best pieces, and in the 20th century Andrés Segovia canonized this work during his illustrious career.
