Location and People
The Motu Koitabu are the indigenous people of the Port Moresby area, along the southern coast of Central Province.
They consist of two closely linked groups:
The Motu, coastal Austronesian speakers, and traditional traders.
The Koitabu, inland Papuan speakers who traditionally lived in the surrounding hills.
Together, they are known as the Motu-Koitabu, and today, they form the traditional landowners of Port Moresby, now Papua New Guinea’s capital city.
