The SBB Giruno (Stadler SMILE) has been in operation since 2019 and represents the newest generation of high-speed trains in the Swiss Federal Railways fleet. Designed for cross-border services, the Giruno is capable of running at speeds up to 250 km/h and is certified for operation in multiple European countries. Its modular design allows for flexible configurations depending on route requirements.
This journey covers the route from Zürich HB to Lugano via the Gotthard Base Tunnel – the world’s longest railway tunnel. Inside the tunnel, the train reaches speeds of up to 230 km/h, significantly reducing travel times between northern and southern Switzerland.
