I feel like I slandered Shanghai a bit too much in this one. What I was saying is that if I’m going to another country I want to immerse myself in the local culture as fully as possible. And being a Chengdu fanboy, the internationality of Shanghai feels a little off-putting to me — it's not to say it's a bad thing but just a contrast to Chengdu, which was where I originally wanted to go.

Also to add to the thing about exchange students learning Finnish: I think the most obvious difference in daily and textbook speech can be found in my age group where we use a lot of slang for example (compared to other age groups)
