If you want to walk better & longer distances on uneven ground (like sand 🏝️, grass, cobblestone, brick 🧱, etc… then you need to PRACTICE walking on uneven surfaces — not just your strengthening & balance exercises!
This will not only strengthen your muscles, but it will prepare your mindset so you feel more confident & in control.
Confidence plays a HUGE role in walking — if you’re feeling fearful, doubtful, and nervous, that will appear in your walking!
Here’s how to make sure you’re safe while practicing…
Step 1️⃣: be safe!!! Use a mobility aid to help keep you stable and balanced.
Step 2️⃣: just take a few steps and work your way up to more steps.
Step 3️⃣: start on a surface that is challenging, but not the MOST challenge (ie. a sidewalk instead of sand)
Step 4️⃣: if this is WAY too challenging for you right now…start with just standing (not walking) on uneven surfaces!
