Today, Dr. Abhishek Shukla interacted with the 3rd-year students of Ma Chandrika Devi Institute and discussed an important emergency condition, cardiac arrest. He explained that cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating, cutting off blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. It is a medical emergency that requires an instantaneous response, as even a few seconds of delay can make the difference between life and death. Dr. Shukla emphasized that the most crucial factor in such situations is timely action to restore circulation and preserve life.
He discussed about the importance of applying the right amount of pressure when attempting to revive someone in cardiac arrest. The goal, he explained, is to ensure that the heart and lungs are stimulated enough to maintain minimal blood flow until professional medical help arrives. Hesitation or fear in such moments can be dangerous and that confidence and promptness are essential for saving a life.
Dr. Shukla also shared that while performing life-saving measures, it is not uncommon for a few ribs to fracture due to the pressure exerted on the chest. He reassured the students that this should not discourage anyone from intervening, as these fractures are a small consequence compared to the larger goal, saving a human life. This discussion helped the students understand that medical emergencies demand courage, precision, and compassion, and that every second truly counts when a person’s heart stops beating.
