In this presentation, Marco Aqil shares research from his recently defended PhD, exploring two complementary approaches to understanding visual perception and brain dynamics. The first part focuses on population receptive field models and how psychedelics alter visual processing, while the second examines graph neural fields for modeling brain dynamics and geometric hallucinations.
Marco Aqil (https://x.com/marcoaqil) is a neuroscientist and mathematician specializing in computational models of visual perception and brain dynamics. He led the first psychedelic fMRI study in Amsterdam using psilocybin to investigate alterations in visual context processing. He's the founder of the Amsterdam Psychedelic Research Association (https://apra.science). His work bridges sophisticated mathematical modeling with experimental neuroscience to understand how the brain constructs visual experience.
