Hope you all are doing good and welcome back to my channel Amazing Alisha 🙂🙏
I am once again back with a video on Darjeeling's highly talked about topic i.e. it's tea & tea garden. A video of around 20 minutes engages in the emotions that the tea garden workers carry as well as the issues that the tea industry as a whole is facing right now. Hence, the title I have chosen for this video is "Issues And Emotions With Darjeeling Tea (featuring Risheehat Tea Garden)".
This time, while adding English subtitles in the video, I chose not to change certain Nepali terms as I feared that in the process of translation from Nepali to English, the warmth and care with which certain words are pronounced may get lost and there may also not be equivalent terms in the English language. It's an experiment and I look forward to trying this pattern in my upcoming videos as well. For those who are curious to know the meaning of Nepali terms used in the video, I have provided the footnotes below:
00:05 Natini (नातिनी): Granddaughter
00:17 Boju (बोजू): Grandmother
01:25 Chokada (छोकड़ा): A term used for tea garden labourers below 18 years of age whose wages were also relatively less than the senior labourers.
14:29 Namaste (नमस्ते): A respectful greeting and salutation in Indian culture.
14:30 Naani (नानी): A term filled with warmth & care used by elders when they lovingly call a younger one, especially the kids.
15:15 Lokada (लोकड़ा): A term for tea garden labourers younger than Chokada. A Lokada was usually between the age of 8-12 years, used for sorting and separating what is usable and what is disposable from a tea bush.
