We leave China and cross the border into Laos with our BMW R1300 GSA… just as a typhoon warning hits. After three hours of border checks at Mohan–Boten and reports of terrible road conditions on the Laos side, we start this new chapter of our round-the-world motorcycle trip in the most dramatic way possible.

The road from Boten is known for deep potholes, mud, water crossings, and heavy truck traffic — not ideal when a storm is closing in. Emily comes up with a smart plan to make the journey easier and protect the bike, turning what could have been a disaster into a controlled (and slightly chaotic) ride into Laos.
