Welcome to the lecture on hypothesis, testing in both statistics and epidemiology. In this lecture, I will talk about the concept of null and alternative hypothesis. Then I'll go onto to explain each with examples. I go on to give examples of alternative and null hypothesis. I then explain the meaning of level of significance and its symbol of alpha. I explain how it is the threshold of deciding whether a hypothesis is significant or not. I also explain the concept of P value. I don't explain how P value needs to be very, very small for a hypothesis to be significant. I finally make this whole topic clear with a simple example. In the end, I have a practice question for the students.
