April/May 2021 7-Week Course Reel

An overview of our latest 7-week ‘Makeup FX & Prosthetics Creation’ course with principal tutor Martina Sandelin and studio assistant Seb Copple.

The course began with flat mould prosthetics, full head life casting, a sculpture class with Neill Gorton and establishing various basic techniques as a foundation for further learning. Our students then designed, manufactured and applied their own silicone prosthetics following a prosthetic application class with Millennium FX’s Director of Makeup, Rebecca Butterworth. They then studied sculpting and anatomy before starting work on their final projects; sculpting maquettes, making armatures and beginning their full-scale sculpts.

Mould making followed – a highly technical skill – followed by casting out of their moulds with silicone, de-moulding their casts, then trimming, seaming and patching them in readiness for painting and finishing. They then painted their projects before studying hair punching, hair laying and flocking, and learning how to make custom eyes. The end of the course saw them finish their all-important final projects and have them photographed for their portfolios, ready to showcase their new skills to prospective employers.
