Today I’m turning one of my quiet autumn walks at RHS Wisley into a soft and simple watercolour landscape.
Even though we’ve moved on from autumn now, I couldn’t let these colours go — they were too beautiful not to paint.
In this video, I’ll take you through my whole process, from sketchbook studies and colour tests to stretching the paper and building the final painting. If you’ve ever wanted to turn your favourite landscape photos into calm, paintable compositions, I hope this gives you some ideas.
Materials I used:
– 100% cotton watercolour paper (stretched)
– HB pencil
– Jackson’s Artist Watercolours: lemon yellow, quinacridone rose, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, burnt umber, ultramarine blue, Payne’s grey
– Winsor & Newton lake blue + vermilion
– Neocolor II pastels
– Various brushes, spray bottle, paper towel
If you enjoy this kind of relaxed landscape process video, you might like my other tutorials too.
Let me know if you have any questions in the comments — I always love chatting with you.
Thank you for watching 💛
Happy painting!
