Southport Sprint Revival & Classic Car Show - 14 September and 15 September 2024

OVER the weekend of 14 September and 15 September 2024, the Aintree Circuit Club hosted the Southport Sprint Revival 2024 on the resort's seafront and within Victoria Park.

This footage shows some clips of the action with the cars racing at the event on Saturday. and the Classic Car Show Awards, plus the vintage cars leaving the show grounds, on a very wet Sunday.

The event started well, with good weather on Saturday. This part of the event was to revive the historic sprint course, which used parts of Marine Drive until the early 1960s prior to the establishment of the Coastal Road. This part of the show had many stunning classic cars roaring up and down Marine Drive, as spectators took in the action and the views of Southport Beach, from designated viewing areas. This was a far bigger track, with some new features added making for far more interesting runs.

Sadly, as with many events in 2024, the weather changed and in stark contrast to the previous day, the heavens opened. This led to a deficient number of vehicles displayed and the scrapping of the parade through the Town Centre. But those who did go got to see some fantastic vehicles.

Southport Classic and Speed organiser Mike Ashcroft said:- "Southport Classic and Speed 2024 was intended to build on the great success of 2023, 2022, and 2021 and will once again celebrate our motoring and motorsport heritage. Sadly, rain spoilt play for the Classic Car Show, but we did get some fantastic action on the Saturday, on the Town's Marine Drive, with our Southport Sprint Revival. We would like to thank Cataclean who helped us present the activities and our other main supporter Ocean Plaza Leisure This year we celebrated the 70 anniversary of the opening of the 3 Mile Aintree Grand Prix Circuit; 29 May 1954; the UK's only purpose, built Formula 1 GP Track and the formation of Aintree Circuit Club, also in 1954. This year we also held the 60 Anniversary of the last Motor Race held on our Aintree Grand Prix Circuit on 16 May 2024."
