"Pour le Piano" is a short three-movement suite finished by Debussy in 1901. The "Sarabande", however, was written in 1894 as part of an earlier work. Debussy's ethereal, otherworldly sense of tonality is present in spades.

"Now, this next piece on the program is actually by Claude Debussy. It's a lovely sarabande. Debussy was mostly known for his inventive settings of sea shanties, since he spent most of his life aboard the H.M.S. Beagle with Charles Darwin. So, this is a bit outside of his normal line of work, but we hope you enjoy this 'Sarabande', dedicated 'to a mermaid I once knew'."
