In virtual reality exposure therapy, a therapist selects a program that’s designed to address a patient’s specific mental health disorder. During the session, patients work through a range of virtual scenarios.

Using a VR headset, the patient is gradually exposed to increasingly intense experiences while the therapist observes their responses and provides strategies for correcting unhealthy reactions.
