This Insect Looks Like a Flower! Ft. Orchid Praying Mantis

I am on the search of an insect that looks just like a flower! It is the orchid praying mantis (Hymenopus coronatus). Just like other praying mantis it uses its front legs to spring out and catch unsuspecting prey. But unlike other praying mantis' that blend into their surroundings so that its prey can't see them, it actually blends in to look like a flower so that is is visible to its prey! A butterfly or bee that is in search of nectar mistakes the orchid praying mantis for a flower, and gets preyed upon. What an incredible strategy!

Collating all the data we are gathering will help build a picture of which habitats are key to sustaining the largest diversity of life on planet earth.
