Woyzeck as Vines

Georg Büchner‘s „Woyzeck“ is a german play which consists only of unfinished fragments due to Büchner‘s early death.

It portrays the issues the low working class has to deal with in the first half of the 19th century and shows the soldier Woyzeck who, driven by financial problems, has to take up numerous dehumanizing jobs to care for his partner Marie and their illegitimate child Christian.

One of his jobs is working for the Doctor who uses him as a guinea pig to run pointless experiments, one requiring Woyzeck to only eat peas and retain his urine.

Over time Woyzeck becomes physically and mentally wrecked and in an act of jealousy, he kills his partner Marie who cheated on him with the Drum Major.
