Mørktår (UK) — Plagued By This Hagridden Life — 2025 full length

After two years of uneasy silence, the English quartet returns with an album that seems carved from a feverish nightscape. This sophomore album does not merely continue the harshness hinted at in their 2023 EP, it escalates it into something more volatile, more untamed, yet strangely more deliberate closer to their first album. There is a sense of controlled mania at play, as if the band have learnt to channel their chaos into vivid shapes, letting each contour gleam with a sinister allure.

Rather than revisiting their early tumult for nostalgia’s sake, Mørktår twists its black metal foundations into a palette of clashing hues. As serrated riffs flicker as rusted blades against unhinged vocal eruptions, a restless rhythmic section pummels forward with grim determination. What might once have been mere abrasion now mutates into a vibrant, hysteric soundscape, where each instrument tears and blooms in equally. Where the production remains defiantly rough-edged, yet it has a strange luminosity to it, allowing its sharpened quirks and fevered dynamics to surge to the surface. This duality grants the record a paradoxical richness, as though the filth itself is a phosphorescent being.

The record spirals through themes of torment and decay, but filters them through an almost spitefulness, giving the sense of a mind exorcising its own shadows as frenzy moments collide with passages of hypnotic bleakness, crafting a flow that portrays a descent through layers of fevered introspection, each more blistered than the other.
