The 1980s gave us some of the most legendary motorcycles of all time—but not every engine from that era deserves praise. For every Honda VFR or Yamaha FZR that changed the game, there were bikes with motors so fragile, underpowered, or downright frustrating that they earned a spot in history’s hall of shame.
In this video, we’re counting down the 10 worst motorcycle engines of the 1980s. From Kawasaki’s fragile belt-drive twins to Yamaha’s buzzy middleweights, Honda’s infamous “chocolate camshafts,” and Kawasaki’s disastrous turbo experiment, these engines remind us that not all innovation was good innovation.
⚡ If you owned one of these bikes, you know the pain. If not, consider yourself lucky.
