this is my first time subbing and posting a youtube video LMAOO

this stream is from a while back, in august 2023, but i still wanted to sub it. as a shanghainese person myself, i think it’s so cool that maririn is shanghainese too! it’s really unfortunate that nowadays, the younger generations can only speak mandarin fluently, including myself (i can understand shanghainese though). it’s really refreshing to see that they can still remember snippets from their childhood :D
video notes:
1. 1:15 this word is more used as a term of endearment for younger children, but because i’m not sure how to directly translate it into english, i used “little dear” instead.
2. 2:52 the word isn’t as harsh as the word “idiot” is in english, but it depends on the context.
3. 4:32 in mandarin, this would be “你脑子不理你吗？” which quite literally means “is your brain ignoring you?”. essentially, it’s like asking “are you stupid?”.
4. 4:36 “你脑子坏了” literally means “your brain is broken”
