4K Beijing Walk: Empty Hutongs During Covid (But Some Busy Streets)

Walking on the streets of Beijing has been a strange experience the last couple of months. China’s “zero-covid” policies meant that lots of public places were in lockdown, and restaurants could only sell take-out. This resulted in lots of deserted streets, but also resulted in restaurants setting up shop outside of their restaurants, selling their food outside directly to the people of Beijing. As policies seem to be relaxing in recent weeks, we start looking back on this special period with a short walk through some Hutong districts in downtown Beijing.

🇨🇳 Chinese introduction: 这是现在，也是历史。在过去的几个月里，走在北京的街道上有一种奇怪的体验。北京的“动态清零”政策使得很多公共场所都处于关闭或限制人流的状态。原本很多热闹非凡的商业街都行人了了。所有餐厅只能外卖，禁止堂食。为了增加收入，各个饭馆纷纷在店门口摆起熟食摊，短暂恢复了多年前就禁止的沿街叫卖，形成了新的景观。随着近几周疫情形式的慢慢好转，这样的“新景观”又会慢慢消失。
