You may notice the ease with which I can shift from the chanti to the thaap and vice versa. This is a testimony to Ustad Bhai Arjan Singh Tarangar's teaching acumen. It is funny when the young enthusiasts even want to argue and insist on one or the other style without realizing. I hope this post will awaken quite a few kids on the road....
The importance of the 'pinky' finger is there in both styles, in chaanti usually the hand can look very crooked whereas in the thaap version, the hand is at its most refined state. Very few hands in chaanti are aesthetical; Bhai Mohinder Singh, Ustad Pinky Namdhari and YT are a few gifted ones in recent times.
