How to Operate a Compact Excavator | Bobcat Excavators | Tutorial

Compact excavators are great for jobs across landscaping, demolition, excavation, construction and more, especially in tighter quarters. Here are some basic operating tips on how to successfully use your Bobcat® compact excavator against a wall, foundation or structure.

In this video, Bobcat’s Mike Fitzgerald walks you through some basic operation pointers for your Bobcat compact excavator.

• Before you start: Familiarize yourself with the operation and maintenance manual.
• Starting your machine: Warm up your machine at low idle and take the time to familiarize yourself with the controls.
• Hydraulic controls: Left and right joysticks control the boom, arm, bucket and upper-structure sloop. Choose your control pattern from ISO or standard via the lever below your seat.
• Blade operation: Lower your blade before you begin digging. Lift the blade for traveling.
• Traveling in the excavator: Lift the boom slightly off the ground and ensure the blade is at the machine’s front, then slowly move either the steering levers or the foot pedals to begin moving.
• Digging next to a wall, structure or foundation: In-track swing frame, tail swing configurations and Bobcat excavator controls combine to simplify digging in close quarters.
