Episode 29: Making & Assembling the Doors

In Episode 29 of the Flatbed Felix Pedal Car Build, Ezio cuts and builds the wooden doors. Vaughan fits the hinges and mounts the doors to the pedal car. This episode focuses on basic wood-cutting techniques and following the plans to make sure everything lines up and fits as intended.

Skills You'll Learn
Ezio uses the cutting guide to get the most out of a full sheet of plywood. He demonstrates different sawing techniques, cutting out the doors with both a track saw and a jig saw. He explains the best methods for working across the grain and uses a hole saw to cut the radius corners of the window sections. A hand saw and chisel are used to create the angled cuts needed for the door frame. The frame is built from pine, cut with a drop saw and hand saw. Once everything is prepped, Ezio assembles the doors using wood screws and wood glue, then hands them over to Vaughan for fitting.

Vaughan checks the parts and follows the plans to install the doors onto the bulkhead using the hinges. He also shows how to measure and mark the correct hinge location on the bulkhead for proper alignment.

Tools You'll Need
You’ll need a tape measure, ruler, square, pencil or marker, center punch, F-clamps, track saw, hand saw, chisel, jig saw, screwdriver, drill and bit set, hole saw set. countersink set, a vice, and a sturdy workbench.

Always wear gloves, safety goggles, hearing protection, and PPE when working.
