This episode focuses on the main story mission “An Unpayable Debt”, where Naoe awakens injured in an unfamiliar place and is forced into a dream-like sequence that blurs past and present. The mission temporarily pauses as we relive key moments from Naoe’s childhood in the mandatory memory quest “Wake Up Call”, laying the foundation for her combat training, discipline, and emotional resolve.

During Wake Up Call, we return to Naoe’s village two years earlier, spar with Nagata using bokken training, practice guard breaks, deflections, and dueling mechanics, and help Matsu deal with local troublemakers. This section acts as both narrative development and a deeper combat tutorial, showcasing Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ parry-focused swordplay and immersive pacing.

Back in the present, An Unpayable Debt resumes as Naoe trains under Junjiro and Sorin. This includes a peaceful yet symbolic sequence where Naoe paints a Tanuki, recovers through a montage of healing and training, and regains full strength. With her katana returned, she cuts bamboo to complete her recovery, unlocks a Viewpoint within the temple grounds, and prepares for the next chapter of her journey.
