Madiba K. Dennie is the author of The Originalism Trap, and deputy editor and senior contributor at the critical legal commentary website Balls and Strikes. This talk will focus on Madiba Dennie's experiences writing about the law, and the relationship between legal commentary, everyday Americans, and efforts to hold power to account. By exposing the shortcomings of existing legal structures and methods of interpretation, and interrogating the law's role in maintaining societal injustice, legal commentators can help empower the public to fight for reform.
