One box that defined how you can kill vocalists with a nice natural sound. The Antares Autotune ATR-1 from the mid 90s. Used on Cher's "Believe" and the world was never the same. You'd be hard pressed to find any chart music today without it. A total destroyer of vocal charm and emotion.
The algorithm was first introduced as a plugin for ProTools prior to being a box (ATR-1). The hardware box made the effect available to everyone, even those without a ProTools system.
These days the plugin exists on all software platforms.
