I made this film as a young filmmaker who had relatives in Vermont. Directed it. Shot it with a handheld 16mm camera. Edited it. Created the jazz music with some fellow locals. My goal was to make a film without any voice over scripted narration so that I could distribute it in non-English speaking countries. I never did that but I went on in my career to make many other handheld sync-sound documentaries. On this day (a one day shoot) the men who worked the quarry treated me wonderfully. Made me part of the team. I felt comfortable down in the quarry although the work was hard and it was a cold day. I admired them then. I admire them now. So many buildings, both government and commercial, starting in the early 1800s, were built with granite from this Vermont quarry.
