Six adorable limpkin chicks growing up and surviving in the wild at Lake Morton in Lakeland, Florida. The first time I saw these chicks they were little fuzz balls, no more than a few days old (see video on June 28). I've loved watching them grow. I've been back multiple times and consolidated footage at three and four weeks old in this video. Each step of the way they change and grow so much. In my experience I've never seen all of a family's chicks survive...this is an exception, one that I'm so happy to witness. The siblings cuddle, fight, bathe, and have begun to learn how to forage. They've started climbing bushes, knocking on shells with their bills, and acting tough with intruding wildlife. I wonder what I'll see next time!
