Today we're comparing two classics - the Paul Reed Smith McCarty and the Gibson Les Paul Standard.
Every guitar has a story behind it, and these two are particularly special.
The Gibson is a 1993 Les Paul Standard. It is the second electric guitar I ever owned and it was given to me by my parents on Christmas day. We weren't a rich family growing up, but my parents knew how much I loved creating music and decided to give me the most meaningful gift I've ever received.
The PRS is the first left handed McCarty ever made. It was shown at the NAMM show, and purchased by a collector in New York. In the days before the internet, my father somehow tracked it down by phone, and met the owner when he was in New York on business, and again, bought it as a Christmas gift.
I hope that I can be even half as generous and supportive of my son as my dad was with me. As dad is bravely fighting pancreatic cancer, I'd ask you to keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and remember to be good to your parents and your kids.
