Owen Eichensehr original - 1912, April 15 - Demo

This is a demo of one of my original tunes - written about Titanic and her story. Recorded at Windfall Recording Studio in Hammondsport, NY in January 2017. I’m playing guitar and mandolin, as well as singing. Lyrics and Music Copyright Owen Eichensehr, 2016.

They laid down her keel, in 1909 and she’d be the largest vessel of her time; with rivets by the million and steel by the ton, they laid her down in Harland Wolff yard 401

Two long years men slaved away, for just seven shillings a day, and and they launched her on the 31st of May

She was fitted out, to be luxury defined and she’d sail for the White Star Line; sink they said she could not, come hell or high seas until 1912 on April 15.

In Southampton they embarked, on April 10; 900 women, children and men; but they would call two ports more and when they sailed from Cherbourg, there were twenty two hundred sorry souls aboard.

Two thousand miles west bound, the ice was drifting down, when they sailed from the docks at Queenstown.

And she made great time as they sailed smooth seas, but the warnings of the ‘bergs she did not not heed; toward New York she steamed, and into history, in 1912 on April 15

In the logs it is inscribed that the weather was divine along forty one north, meridian forty nine; when from the star lit sky a ghostly mass materialized; ships time eleven forty five

It was just a glancing blow, but the water rushed in below and her builders knew what tomorrow the world would know.

And the band played on nearer my god to thee, as she sunk ever lower into the sea; many their fates they did meet in waters of 28 degrees, in 1912 on April 15

She’d had every ilk in tow, from nameless trimmers deep below; to Jack Astor and the rest of high society - But all the wealth in the world, could save them from the sea - in 1912 on April 15
