back before high school, a packed Friday night,
A place I don’t usually sign, but I got an invite
Underneath the cheap chaos of the flashing club light.
No sequins, no sparkle, just jeans a little frayed,
Your style was so simple, a statement you made
By not making one at all, in that Second full of loud,
And my world went quiet in the middle of the crowd.
And I knew right then and there that I was already lost.
I went home that night and couldn't get you out of my head,
Wrote pages of poetry beside my unmade bed.

A chill in the air, between summer’s deathbed and the winter ahead
And years went by, he broke your heart, it was easy to tell
From the beginning, I knew he didn't deserve you well.
I couldn’t stand in your ways, couldn’t be a Rebel
And I smell your cloth every single day
Known that your smells are gonna fading away
I feel so numb, I can’t hold myself to say
And I don’t want you gone, but I will never get that again

I couldn’t believe it, my heart in my throat
I started walking over, with a smile, grabbing my coat
I thought of what I’ll say, but you weren’t alone,
Far away with your brother and some boy
I saw you laugh, a laugh with some vintage joy
But mine has been destroyed by your voice and shy
turned back around, I went back to my place
Like my purpose in life has been taken away
My first high school just arrived, and I felt like
I will never be able to tell my kids that we were high school sweethearts…
Seems to be the end, a knife to my heart.
